Social Media For Business

The time of "Build it and they will come" in business is gone. No one uses the yellow pages anymore. Gone is the one-point-of-information to place your ads. Now it is Facebook, online coupons, YouTube videos and Pinterest, to name a few. But you say you don't have time and you don't know how to get started. Well, I have help for you.

Use social media for business.

Start with the fact that it is social media - it's not about selling. Focus on being conversational or helpful. Talk about and share information that your target audience would like to read. Concentrate on topics that will make you the expert in your area. Make your page a place people can go to get information - be a resource for your users: how to clean your laundry; the best techniques for training your puppy; whatever it is that you are an expert in. Talk about things you are comfortable with. I am assuming since this is your business, you know a great deal about it, and it is something you are interested in. Use that knowledge and interest to your advantage.

If you're starting from scratch, just choose one of the social platforms. Don't think you have to get started on all of them all at once. Pick one and master it before you go on to the next. This may take a while, but be patient; anything worth doing is worth doing well. Watch how other businesses interact with users, look for friends and share with them. Share quotes and posts from their pages - it's like making friends all over again. Treat your friends the way you want to be treated. Share, discuss and engage them. Like their interests and friend others. Soon your popularity will grow, and hopefully you will find you even enjoy it.

Let's be clear, though. I am not saying to abandon traditional media all together. A combination of paid ads (print, Radio or TV), press releases, and social media is really the best approach. After all, your goal is to keep your name in front of your target audience. Now go ahead and start being social.

I hope these marketing tips make your campaigns more effective.
